Electrified Mobility

Hydrogen Bus Powertrain Modeling and Sizing

We develop full-vehicle dynamic models of hydrogen buses to simulate energy flows through the fuel cell, lithium-ion battery, hydrogen storage system, and motor. Energy management and powertrain sizing searches are combined to assess trade-offs among driving range, acceleration, and cost, with model outputs compared against constant-speed vehicle measurements. The model has also been extended to include the cooling system and temperature dynamics, enabling thermal states to inform control decisions and system simulation validation.

High-Power and High-Energy Hybrid Battery Systems

High-power and high-energy batteries are integrated through a dual-input, single-output DC/DC conversion architecture that allocates power according to load demand and battery state of charge. The high-power battery handles transient loads, while the high-energy battery supports sustained supply, coordinated by a DSP and the vehicle battery control unit (BCU). Dynamic load experiments using an electronic load and scaled battery packs evaluate the feasibility of power allocation and control strategies.

Mobile Hybrid Electric Power Generation Modules

Fuel cells and energy storage batteries are combined in a mobile power generation module. Power conversion and energy management allocate output as loads change. The module can supply electric tools, temporary equipment, or emergency response operations at sites where fixed power is difficult to access. Research covers system modeling, mechatronic integration, and power supply performance testing under variable loads.

Hybrid Powertrain Modeling and Energy Management for Watercraft

Two powertrain architectures are developed for surface and underwater vehicles: a dual-electric-source system powered by fuel cells and lithium-ion batteries, and a hybrid propulsion system in which an internal combustion engine and an electric motor share propulsion demand. Hull resistance, propulsion, and cruising-condition models support energy management strategies that account for battery state of health. Control performance is evaluated through real-time simulation and staged hardware testing.
